The Yacht

Redrum has dominated on the race course across multiple rating bands. A truly turn-key trophy winner, possbily the most successful PHRF racer on Lake Michigan since her launch in the spring of 2007, she doesn't just nip at the heels of the big dogs. She eats them up. Professionally optimized with fanatical attention to detail. No stone unturned in the quest for speed. Deck arranged for maximum crew efficiency. Plus, sparkling cosmetics inside and out.

Originally designed to the Mount Gay 30 box rule by Richard Roake. Hull and deck laid up by New England Boatworks with vacuum-bagged epoxy/fiberglass over foam. Custom sailplan, keel and rudder designed by Geoff Van Gorkom. Nothing but the best sails and gear. Expertly engineered for lightness and strength. A total rocket upwind and down. In the right hands, this gorgeous, custom, state-of-art racing yacht is absolute murder. Price: $119,500 USD.

broker's notes

Redrum’s hull lines were designed to the Mount Gay 30 box rule. The naval architect is Richard Roake. The hull and deck were laid up by New England Boat Works (NEB) utilizing epoxy resin on foam core, vacuum bagged. The project was never completed due to a reported lack of funds. New England Boat Works then sold the hull, deck, interior patterns and miscellaneous rigging and hardware. Scott Bruesewitz purchased the parts and brought them to Milwaukee, WI where the boat was completed over the following 18 months.

Naval architect Geoff Van Gorkom of Van Gorkom Yacht Designs was commissioned to design the keel and rudder. The keel was built by Roberto Vulling of Industrias Duro SA de CV in Mexico. The vertical fin is a stainless steel wing frame weighing approximately 434 pounds. The lead bulb is thru-bolted to the wing frame; the bulb weighs approximately 1,380 pounds. The keel was epoxy-faired and sealed by the manufacturer. The keel-to-hull attachment uses 8 1” stainless steel bolts with ½” stainless steel backing plates.

The rudder was constructed in carbon fiber by Advanced Composite Concepts of California. The carbon fiber and epoxy blade is laid up over a carbon fiber rhomboid rudder shaft. The post rides on a 5" self-aligning universal bearing. The tiller is carbon over a wood form produced by the owner.

The internal structure of the hull is hand-layup epoxy resins over 1708 biax cloth over divinycell foam.  All surfaces of the exterior and interior have been faired, epoxy-sealed, primed and topcoated with InterLux Perfection. The hull color is Platinum Gray. The decks, mast and boom are Matterhorn White. The anti-fouling paint is VC-17M red.

The aluminum mast and boom are from Hall spars. Configuration is fractional with two sets of spreaders and one jumper strut. All standing rigging is Navtec rod. The backstays and runners are spectra. The headstay is a Harken carbon foil. All halyards are tapered New England Ropes with Tylaska shackles. There are two masthead asymmetrical spinnaker halyards, two fractional-height jib/genoa halyards and one mainsail halyard.
